Oasis Liquid Handling Standard Pipetting Tools

The Oasis offers three standard multi-channel pipetting tools, including two 96-Tip and one 384-Tip pipette head.  There is also a standard 8-Tip tool for volumes up to 1 mL primarily utilized for IC-50 or serial dilution column-wise applications.  The standard 96 & 384-Tip pipetting tools have consistently provided impressive pipetting results in field head-to-head comparisons performed by end users when compared with leading competitors.  Typical results indicated Imprecision CV's of the Oasis to be approximately 1/2 of the competitive product with the Oasis CV's of ~ 5% at 1 uL for the 96-Tip and ~ 8% for the 384-Tip.

Although both the 96 & 384-Tip pipette heads are rated down to 500 nL, we can successfully implement smaller volumes down to 50 nL.  The Oasis currently utilizes commonly market available 96 & 384 disposable tips in an effort to offer end users the lowest possible disposable costs as well as available features & sizes.

In addition, there are Robotic Pin Tools commercially available that are offered for nL level plate to plate transfers that are supported on the Oasis LM Series.  These tools cover the volume range from 2 nL to 5 uL and are available in 96, 384 & 1536-Pin models.

We have been primarily focused on micro plate based multi-channel transfer applications utilizing 96 & 384-Tip pipetting tools.  Our currently available 96 & 384-Tip pipetting tools on the Oasis LM Series are unsurpassed in precision & accuracy.  In addition, we have integrated air-displacement pipetting heads with many different configurations of tip styles, pipetting volumes and tip patterns.

Given most laboratories still have a sample based in tubes, like microtubes or test tubes, the addition of independent channels addresses the need to access single positions across the entire deck.  These channels fulfill the BioPharma market needs for process control and IVD OEM requirements for validated sample transfers where liquid handling is actively monitored and controlled.  This active monitoring gives each channel the ability to handle a wide range of liquids without the custom development of ‘liquid classes’ speeding up implementation time.  The NEW Independent large volume channels (0.1-10 ml) fill the need in cell culture media addition and removal where larger volumes are required with a single disposable tip.

Pin Tools – Nano Pipetting (2 – 250 nl)

With the push for assay miniaturization and the liquid handling volume requirements well into the lower nanoliter range, we have employed pin tool technologies to fulfill some application requirements.  There are several robotic pin tools commercially available that we have utilized for the plate replication of 384 or 1536 well plates down to volumes as low as 2 nl.  This is a standard offering on the Oasis LM series workstations.  For the genomics / proteomics market, pin technology can be used on the NanoPrint to deliver sub-nl volumes for microarrying.  The 384 and 1536 pin tools deliver volume ranges 2nl to 5nl.  In addition, we have implemented many of the non-contact NanoLiter Dispensing Modules that can be implemented as a standard tool on a liquid handling arm (Oasis or other) to offer aspirating / non-contact dispensing < 100 nl on some of our platforms or as OEM modules.

With many applications requiring bulk liquids, we have developed several solutions employing peristaltic pumps, stepper driven syringe pumps and diaphragm pumps.  This technology can be integrated directly into a suspended arm for full deck access or in a stand alone integrated device located on the deck.
